Bulgarr Ngaru Medical Aboriginal Corporation

The Bulgarr Ngaru  Medical Aboriginal Corporation was established in 1991 to provide health services to the Aboriginal communities of the Clarence Valley, New South Wales. The Clarence Valley includes the Aboriginal communities of Grafton, Baryulgil, Malabugilmah, Yamba and Maclean.

In 2010 the service was expanded to also provide primary health services to Aboriginal communities in the Richmond Valley. These communities are Casino, Box Ridge, Muli Muli, Tabulum and Kyogle.

Some of the programs and services the AMS delivers include:

  • Aboriginal nutrition research
  • alcohol and other drug counselling
  • child and adult dental services
  • dietitian/nutritionist services
  • preventative health programs
  • medical clinical services
  • mental health case management
  • sexual health program

The service is predominantly funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and New South Wales Ministry of Health.
